Mingled Yarn

Preparation

Winding a Center-Pull Ball
an easy method when you don't have a winder handy, or the yarn is already in use

Cast-On

Knitted
a nice firm cast on, great for when you need to cast on an overwhelming number of stitches
Cable
similar in practice to the knitted cast on, but with an attractive edge resembling a small cable
Long-Tail
perhaps the most versitle cast on, quick and elastic, a good rule of thumb is to place your first loop in one inch from the end for each stitch you need to cast on
Double-Needle Rolled
an extremely elastic cast on, great for cuffs and other areas that need a lot of give
Crochet (without Crochet Needle)
an attractive firm cast on that, when done in contrasting waste yarn, can be used provisionally as well
Turkish
a simple cast-on which provides two rows of live stitches—good for toe-up socks and items in which directional stitches are needed
