Step 1
Begin in “Y” or “slingshot” position with one loop on working needle (green, here), behind smaller second needle (blue). Your original loop will need to be about an inch-and-a-half in for each stitch you're casting on. |
Step 2
Touch both needles to outside of thumb. |
Step 3
Scoop the outside strand of yarn up with both needles. |
Step 4
Catch outer strand of yarn on index finger with working needle only. |
Step 5
Pull this strand and the working needle down through the center of thumb loop. |
Step 6
As you bring the working needle up, catch the thumb loop with the second needle. |
Step 7
Let loop fall off thumb and gently tension around both needles. |
Step 8
Roll needles away from you, twisting the strands of yarn underneath them. |
Step 9
Reposition into “Y” or “slingshot,” and repeat until you have desired number of stitches—you will count only the loops on your working needle. Remove the smaller needle from the loops and begin knitting! |
