Mingled Yarn

Long-Tail Cast-On
perhaps the most versatile cast on, quick and elastic, a good rule of thumb is to place your first loop in one inch from the end for each stitch you need to cast on

Step 1Step 1
Start in “Y” or “Slingshot” position—one loop on needle, which is centered between index and thumb of opposite hand, ring and pinky finger holding tail and working end of yarn.
Step 2Step 2
Touch tip of needle to outside of thumb, over all strands of yarn
Step 3Step 3
Scoop up outermost strand of yarn and touch needle to index finger
Step 4Step 4
Swoop down index finger, catch outer strand of yarn, and touch needle to top of thumb.
Step 5Step 5
Drag needle down thumb, through the center of loop.
Step 6Step 6
Let this loop fall off thumb.
Step 7Step 7
Tension stitch on needle gently (not too tight!) and repeat until you have the desired number of stitches.
